Check a subcontractor's certificate of insurance
General contractors usually need more than a limit on a page: additional insured status for ongoing and completed operations, a waiver of subrogation and primary and non-contributory wording. See what a subcontractor's packet shows.

What this check compares
- General liability of $1M and $2M, with $2M products-completed operations
- Additional insured for ongoing operations (CG 20 10) and completed operations (CG 20 37)
- Waiver of subrogation (CG 24 04), and primary and non-contributory (CG 20 01)
- Auto liability of $1M any auto
- Statutory workers' compensation with $1M employer's liability, and a $2M umbrella
These are common starting points, not what your contract says. Your written contract decides what is actually required.
Questions
Is ticking ADDL INSD on the ACORD 25 enough?
No. This check looks for the endorsement itself. The ACORD 25 box alone shows as a gap, and so does primary wording that appears only in the Description of Operations.
Do I need an account?
No. You can check a certificate without signing up, up to three times a day. Saving the report or tracking the vendor asks for an email address.
What happens to my file?
Files are stored privately and deleted within about 24 hours. A report you choose to save is kept for 30 days, without the file.
Does this tell me the vendor is insured?
No. It compares what the documents show with a common set of requirements. It does not contact insurers, and your written contract decides what is actually required.
