Check a franchisee's certificate of insurance
Franchise agreements usually ask each unit for general liability, auto, workers' compensation and an umbrella, with the franchisor named as additional insured. Drop in a certificate and see what it shows against that list.

What this check compares
- General liability of $1M each occurrence and $2M aggregate, on an occurrence form
- An additional insured endorsement naming the franchisor, on CG 20 29 or CG 20 26
- Auto liability of $1M, with hired and non-owned autos
- Statutory workers' compensation with $1M employer's liability
- An umbrella of $1M, which you can raise once you have an account
These are common starting points, not what your contract says. Your written contract decides what is actually required.
Questions
Which endorsement forms count for a franchisor?
This check looks for CG 20 29 (grantor of franchise) or CG 20 26. Blanket additional insured wording fails by default, because it does not name the franchisor.
Do I need an account?
No. You can check a certificate without signing up, up to three times a day. Saving the report or tracking the vendor asks for an email address.
What happens to my file?
Files are stored privately and deleted within about 24 hours. A report you choose to save is kept for 30 days, without the file.
Does this tell me the vendor is insured?
No. It compares what the documents show with a common set of requirements. It does not contact insurers, and your written contract decides what is actually required.
